The mega Navratri event ’Vibrant Gujarat 2009’ is organized by Gujarat government and the Gujarat Industries Navratri Festival Society (GINFS). The celebration, on the theme of ‘Shakti Saptdhara’ is a nine days celebration of music and dance from September 19 to 25th September at the University Ground, Ahmedabad. It exhibits the theme of ‘Vibrant Gujarat 2009 – Where Life is a Celebration.’ Inaugurated by Hon’ble CM Narendra Modi, the opening function was attended by thousands of people of Gujarat. Over 84 Delegates from 42 countries and many foreign guests remained present at the inauguration. This comprised of High commissioners, Ambassadors and other visionary foreign delegates from Malaysia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Indonesia, Kenya, Nigeria, Albania, Thai, Ravanda, Turkey, Uganda, Shri Lanka, Ghana, Peru, France, Nepal, Japan, Korea, etc.

Speaker of the Gujarat Assembly Shri Ashokbhai Bhatt, Mayor of Ahmedabad Shri Kanaji Thakor, Council of Ministers, Shri Jaynarayan Vyas, Shri Ramanlal Vora, Shri Narottambhai Patel, Shri Fakirbhai Vaghela, Shri Nitinbhai Patel, Shri Dilipbhai Sanghani, Shri Saurabhbhai Patel, Shri Amitbhai Shah, Shri Parbatbhai Patel, Shri Jaysinh Chauhan,Chairman-Tourism Corporation Shri Kamleshbhai Patel , Chief Secretary Shri D.Rajgopalan, Parliamentary Secretaries, Top officials, Eminent leaders were among the others who attended the function.

After lighting the inaugural lamp and performing Aarti, Chief Minister Narendra Modi referred to the spiritual fervor and rich cultural heritage of Gujarat. He said, "As legend has it, Navratri festival would infuse new life in to the society. I welcome all the artists who have come to take part in the festival. Navratri festival is the festival of Shakti -Puja. Garba and Dandiya-Ras has created global appeal.” He further said, “The people of Gujarat have an entrepreneurial spirit but they also preserve and nurture our rich cultural heritage.”

Delivering welcome address, Chairman G.N.F.C and M.P Shree Parimal Nathvani said, "Visionary initiatives of the Chief Minister have reaped positive results. Navratri festival and Shakti-Pujan has won global recognition."

For nine days, every day from 7.30 onwards, Garba Competitions are be held at the venue. Every district of Gujarat will participate with selected finalists who will be awarded cash prizes. Pavilions at the venue present the vivid culture, heritage and business growth of Gujarat. Saputara, the hill station is visually presented to viewers at a special pavilion. Ambaji, Bahucharaji, Chotila and Pavagadh Shaktipiths are presented with replica temples and religious zeal. World famous Champaner is highlighted at the pavilion. Also a theme pavilion on Global warming is set up at the venue. Other Government Projects are focused on Nirogi Bal, Beti Bachao, Kanya Kelavani, etc. Growth of Industries in Gujarat Pavilion focuses on major Industries. The Power & Energy Pavilion present the Ports of Gujarat in model form. Sports Authority has the initiative of cycle tracks, artificial mountain climbing and other related activities.

Kids city, Craft exhibitions, Food courts are among the other attraction and entertainment themes at the venue. Well known Musicians like Shyamal-Saumil, Arti Munshi, Praful Dave, Parthiv Gohil, Vatsala Patil, Nayan Pancholi, etc. presents the Garba music and vocals. For participating in the Garba Dance, wearing Traditional dress is compulsory. The entry fee is ‘Free’ for all nine days.

Navratri festival is also being observed all over Gujarat cities with religious, cultural and traditional values. It also depicts the rich Heritage – the architectural grandeur, pols, lifestyles and other themes. The cities see the emerging form of new dances of Garba like the Sanedo and HINI dance Garbas with positive message flow. Various Ministers, Government officers, famous films and tv Artists, etc. have been spreading social messages at the events.
