“The innovative approach adopted by Gujarat for growth in the first decade of the new millennium has produced desired results on both the fronts – poverty alleviation & job creation in rural areas,” said Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi while addressing a gathering of the global Indians, held at New Delhi as a part of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas celebrations. He was also of the opinion that for economy, both of these are quite crucial & therefore, the revolutionary success achieved by Gujarat holds significance.

While outlining counters of all-inclusive growth in Gujarat at the meet, he said, “Earlier Gujarat was known as a land of scarcity & disasters, but in the last decades, the state has turned the tables with significant change in agriculture & animal husbandry. It has also set an example how upliftment of poor can ultimately led to their inclusion in process of progress.

He also cited some facts & figures indicating the extent of progress made by the state. Against the national average of just 3%, Gujarat has maintained agricultural growth rate of 9.6% continuously for last ten years. The milk production in the state has increased by around 66% in the said period. Such a booming agro-based economy has helped the state in alleviating the poverty in a big way. Strategy of ensuring equal contribution of industry, farming & service sector in the overall growth has worked and the state has achieved double digit growth. He also highlighted the fact that Gujarat's GDP growth rate of around 11% is even higher than that of China.

Saying that not only farming community, but the growth of animal husbandry has also remained at the core of government's policy for the agricultural augmentation, he cited some first-of-its-kind initiatives by the state government for the well-being of animals like cataract surgery & dental care camp for the livestock.

Asserting that the White Revolution through co-operative moment, Green Revolution through major boost to the farming & the Saffron shade of revolution on energy front truly symbolizes the sense of the tricolor – the national flag, he added that Gujarat has become the petro-capital of India in last decade. And the establishment of the world's largest solar park will now make the state Solar Capital of the Globe.

“As per Gandhian ideology well-being of poorest of the poor should be the main mantra for progress and that is why the growth model of Gujarat mainly focuses on the welfare of the unprivileged,” he added. He also cited some initiatives for the purpose mainly in the field of healthcare, job creation, education and women-upliftment. WHO-acknowledged Chirnjivi Yojana aimed at reducing pregnant women-newborn child immortality rate, Sakhi Mandals – an initiative for women upliftment & the highest contribution of the state in new job creation in the country – to the extent of 78% were some of them.

The CM also gave overview of Gujarat's initiatives for geographical balance in the process for progress. According to him, dudgetary provision to the tune of Rs. 50,000 crore for Vanbandhu Kalyan Yojana meant for the development of tribal belt, Sagar Khedu Vikas Yojana meant for the unprivileged section on the coastal belt & Garib Smrudhhi Yojana meant for urban poor is indicative of such initiatives.

He stressed upon the need of qualitative change for the all-inclusive growth. Instead of going selectively, Gujarat has adopted holistic approach for the growth with core focus on each & every aspects of human development index.

“Apart from economic growth, the state has also gained momentum on infra-development space. Similarly, the growth of rural areas is also in line with the urban pockets. This has brought in due balance n growth process with due scope for job creation,” he added.

The representatives of global Indian community were quite impressed by the progress made by Gujarat under the visionary leadership of Shri Narendra Modi and they hailed all the initiatives launched by the Gujarat Government. After the break, a special interactive session was also held, during which some non-resident Gujaratis discussed in detail various aspects of Gujarat's growth with the Chief Minister.
