Gujarat tableau to showcase ‘Sardar Sarovar Yojana and Statue of Unity’ at Republic Day Parade, reflecting “Ek Bharat, Shresht Bharat”

New Delhi: India’s first home minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s Statue of Unity and the ambitious Sardar Sarovar Yojana which will benefit the parched regions of Gujarat, are this time themes of the state tableau to be showcased at the 66th Republic Day Parade on Rajpath on January 26th. The entire tableau is designed to reflect “Ek Bharat, Shresht Bharat”.

To pay tribute to an entity of a stature of “Iron Man” Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel for his role in the unification of India through integration of over 500 princely states soon after Independence, Statue of Unity is being erected on river Narmada in Gujarat. Having a height of 182 metres, the proposed statue will be the world’s tallest statue. The replica of the same is shown in the front side of the tableau along with displays of an Exhibition Hall, Conference centre and an aquarium.

The Centre of the tableau depicts the turnaround in water irrigation witnessed in arid regions of Gujarat because of the Sardar Sarovar Dam and people from four beneficiary states – Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh — celebrating in lush green farms. The convention hall, turbine and the dam’s waterfall is shown in a very creative manner at the rear of the tableau.

Gujarat’s significance on the national map is incomplete without its majestic Asiatic Lions and the traditional folk. A cultural fiesta in form of Raas Garba will be performed at Rajpath in front of US President Barack Obama who is the Chief Guest, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and other dignitaries present on Republic Day. The cultural troupe of Gujarat had won the inter-state competition held at RR Camp on Wednesday.

Over 60 artists, fabricators, designers and visualisers were involved in the making of the tableau.

A total of 25 tableaux, with 16 of them belonging to states and the union territories, will find their place on the ceremonial boulevard at the 66th Republic Day.
