Chief Minister Narendra Modi flagged off Vadodara Marathon 2012 

41000 runners participate in 14 different groups

Chief Minister Narendra Modi flagged off Vadodara marathon today. Around 41,000 runners in 14 different groups, including international runners, took part in the race.

The Indian contestants for the approaching London marathon will be selected from the runners of this race.

Speaking on the occasion Chief Minister said that when people in such a huge number run together, it gives a feel of collective strength and assurance of progress. The running symbolizes a swift march on the path of progress. With the collective strength, Gujarat will take a front position in the time of global competition.

“Winning or losing is insignificant in the events like marathon. What is important is evoking the collective strength of the people”, he said.

Recalling that the current year is the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda and Sayajirav Gaikwad III Chief Minister outlined the state’s plan for celebrating this year as ‘Yuva Shakti Varsh’. He also gave outline of Khel Mahakumbh which is being participated by thousands of youth.

Congratulating the Vadodara city for the organization of marathon Chief Minister said the city has earned proud for Gujarat by getting a place on the world marathon map. 
Minister of State for Tourism Jitu Sukhadiya, Parliamentary Secretary Yogesh Patel, Mayor Dr. Jyoti Pandya, MP Balkrishna Shukla, MLA Bhupendra Lakhawala, Yuvraj Samarjitsinh Gaikwad and government officials were present on the occasion.

Organizers of the race donated Rs.1,11,111 to Chief Minister’s Kanya Kelavani Nidhi.
