Chief Minister Shri Narendrabhai Modi reiterated his resolve that Gujarat has staged a battle against penury. By organizing ‘Garib Kalyan Mela' in different districts, it has shown the right path of uplifting the poor and deprived classes. Government has taken a pledge that poor people should not suffer anymore, situation must change for better, he added.
 
“No other Government has ever taken such an initiative, Gujarat has launched an ‘Abhiyan'—State-wide Enrolment-drives covering all the villages of State-- in every village, so that no child is left out, we have ensured that they are enrolled in to the school ,and they get education. Education empowers all; it is the right tool to battle out poverty. Gujarat has taken the right path,” said C.M.
 
With firm conviction to remove the stigma of poverty, Chief Minister has launched state-wide ‘Abhiyan' of organizing Garib Kalyan Mela across the State. Under the ‘Abhiyan', Garib Kalyan Mela was organised at Himatnagar today, it included seven talukas of Sabarkantha- they are Himatnagar, Prantij, Idar, Vadali, Bhiloda, Khed-Brahma, and Vijaynagar.
 
Shri Narendrabhai Modi dedicated Vivekanand Jan-Shakti Stadium. Chief Minister handed out scheme-benefits and tool-kits of Rs. 69 Crores to more than 67000 beneficiaries, spreading a ray of hope for the poor people.
 
“Since last 60years, poor people are suffering from penury. Present Government has steered their efforts in the right direction. State has extended home to the homeless, also ensuring them bread. Under the framework, they get education and employment opportunities,” he added.
 
Attributing the credit of his 3000 days of people centric governance to ‘Janta-Janardan', Shri Narendrabhai Modi expressed his indebtedness towards them. It has been a record too. In a unique way, Gujarat is celebrating her ‘Swarnim Jayanti', by launching a Seva-Yagna that covers all the districts-the 50 Garib Kalyan Mela across the State- is the right step to serve the deprived classes, by handing out the scheme-benefits straight in to their hands through 50 ‘Garib Kalyan Melas'.
 
Outlining the genuine outcomes of Garib Kalyan Mela, Chief Minister said, “Government system was always there. They used to formulate schemes, budgetary allocations were made. Crores of rupees were spent, but the poor beneficiary never knew that such a scheme is offing? Which scheme can uplift them? State government has fully ensured that intended benefits reach up to appropriate beneficiary without any corruption. It is really going transform their living conditions for better.”
 
In past, brokers and middlemen used to snatch away the benefits of poor. Presently, Officers are moving village to village, there is no room for the brokers and middlemen. ‘Garib Kalyan Mela' is the fair of destroying the networks of middlemen.
 
Chief Minister explained that Education is right tool to empower them. Taking multi-prong approach, State has launched enrolment drives so that no child is left out of primary education on the one hand, and providing better infrastructure facilities along with computer education on the other. If the child is suffering of serious ailments, State Government bears the entire expenditure of treatment. Around 700 to 800 children received healthcare facilities; State has borne the expenditure of lakhs of rupees.
 
Chief Minister claimed, “We are making committed efforts to find out plots at village level. Since we got independent, whatever numbers of plots were allotted to poor people, our goal is to allot more numbers of dwelling- unit-plots to poor people just within one month.”
 
Revenue Minister Smt Anandiben Patel said, “The poor beneficiary ought not to take rounds of Government offices to get the benefit. Officers are reaching village to village for providing scheme-benefits to them; they are explaining schemes to them. Chief Minister has attached highest importance to women and child welfare. After 42 years of attaining statehood, in the year 2001 Chief Minister had operationalised a separate department of ‘Women and Child Welfare'. State has also formed ‘Gujarat Mahila Aayog'. The gifts received by the Chief Minister are being deposited in to Tosha-Khana, through public auction of these gift-articles what ever amount is collected, that amount goes to ‘Kanya Kelavani Nidhi'.
 
Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Shri Fakirbhai Vaghela said, “The 50 Garib Kalyan Mela would hand out scheme-benefits to around 20 Lakh beneficiaries across the State. To promote sports activities, we have built Sports-Complexes in 11 districts. Rs 32 crores are spent for Sports-Complexes.
 
Education Minister Shri Ramanlal Vora elaborated upon the vision of ‘Garib Kalyan Mela'.
 
Minister of State Shri Jashvant Bhabhor delivered welcome address. Minister of State Shri Jaysinh Chauhan proposed vote of thanks.
 
The Cheque of Rs. 1, 11,111/ was given for ‘Kanya Kelavani Nidhi' to the Chief Minister.
 
Ministers Sarva Shri Nitinbhai Patel, Jaynarayanbhai Vyas, Parbat Patel, M.P.Shri Mahendrasinh Chauhan, MLAs Sarva Shri Prafulbhai Patel, Dilipsinh Parmar, Udesinhbhai ,District BJP President Shri Pruthvirajbhai, District Panchayat President Shri Vastabhai Makwana, Former M.P.and Deputy President -State BJP Shri Haribhai Chaudhri, Presidents of Taluka Panchayats, eminent leaders ,office bearers and people in large numbers attended the function.
