Gujarat Chief Minister opens completely solar-powered GPCB Building

“Pollution-free society rather than pollution control is better option”

Ahmedabad, Sunday: Chief Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the state's first completely solar-powered Paryavaran Bhavan of the Gujarat Polution Control Board (GPCB) at Gandhinagar today. It is run on 80 kw solar panel system.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the credit goes to the farsightedness of GPCB to thank ahead. There is perhaps no dearth of ideas. There are enough of ideas. What is needed is application He said that Gujarat showed the light to the nation in newer ways of Green Technology.

Mr. Modi said taht ‘pollution-free' society is better option for the protection of the new generation, rather than ‘pollution control'. It is better to prevent industries pollute rather than searching for solution to clean pollution. Industries pollute for their own interest. There is need to refrain them from doing so.

He said it is because of aping the western ‘throwaway culture' without adequate means that we are suffering. Indian traditions preach ‘best from the waste' and that is more sustainable. He called for making ‘solid waste management' and ‘water recycling plants' as success models. Gujarat has undertaken ‘clean city' projects in 50 cities. The new century is heading for three-pronged development model of IT+BT+ET (Environmental Technology).

The Chief Minister also launched the GPCB online services, and also released books on Pollution Control.

Forest and Environment Minister Mangubhai Patel said that the Paryavaran Bhavan would not only save electricity but planned to water conservation method too. Others present on the occasion included Minister of State Kiritsinhji Rana, MLA Shambhuji Thakor, Gandhinagar Mayor Mahendrasinh Rana.
