As a part of an Abhiyan of fighting against penury – State's 33rd and Surat districts' second Garib Kalyan Mela was organised today at Mahuva. Chief Minister, Shri Narendrabhai Modi, distributed tool-kits worth Rs.116.48 crore to as many as 30000 poor beneficiaries of Mahuva, Mandavi, Baradoli and Palasana talukas. Around 73000 economically backward needy people have been empowered so far in first and second phase Garib Kalyan Mela held in Surat district.

Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi said that Gujarat government has stopped the practice of using poor as a vote-bank and is helping poor to be treated as humans.

He said that the Government had led a movement to accord the tribal farmers with proprietary rights for farming. Today, Hanfeshwar village in middle Gujarat is India's only a village where all the farmers have proprietary rights for farming. As many as 1000 tribal farmers of Surat district have been accorded with the title worth Rs.60 crore.

It is for the first time in India when a State Government is using every rupee of its exchequer for the welfare of poor, he said.

Outlining the ‘Mission Mangalam' scheme, Chief Minister said that today, rural women are managing Rs.500 crore through the framework of Sakhi-Mandals. The amount under management will be raised to Rs.1000 crore during this Swarnim Year and eventually to Rs.5000 crore by the year 2014.

He made a heartfelt appeal to poor people to abandon ill-habits, if any.

He regretted that the Centre has not kept its promise of crushing inflation within 100 days.

District In-Charge and Environment and Forest Minister Shri Mangubhai Patel said that from this one platform only, a significant amount of benefits worth Rs.116 crore are distributed today.

Addressing the Mela, Minister Shri Narottambhai Patel said that through his ‘Panchamrut' philosophy, the Chief Minister has shown an innovative path of betterment to the country and the world also.

MP-Smt. Darshanaben Jaradosh said that Gujarat's growth will be proved as an inspiration factor for other States.

Navasari-Surat MP-Shri C.R.Patil; Ex.MP-Shri Manasingbhai Patel and Surat district development officer-Shri J.B.Vora also addressed the Mela.

On the occasion, chaque of Rs.7 lac in total were donated to the Chief Minister's ‘Kanya Kelavani Nidhi', by Sumul Dairy, Mahuva Sugar and other organization,

Smt.Ushaben Patel; Parliamentary Secretary-Shri Harshadbhai Vasava, MLAs-Shri Nanubhai Vanani, Kishor Vankawala, Atmaram Parmar and Ganapatbhai Vasava; district leaders and officers along with people in large number attended the Mela.
