Guj CM honors local self-governing bodies for achieving the target of 100% household toilets during ‘Swachata Divas’ celebration at Gandhinagar

Gujarat Chief Minister Smt Anandiben Patel attended celebration of ‘Swachata Divas’ at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar. To mark PM Shri Narendra Modi’s 65th birthday, Gujarat had undertaken an intensive cleanliness drive in last 2 days and is observing ‘Swachata Divas’ today.

On this occasion CM Smt Patel honoured local self-governing bodies for their contribution in making Gujarat open-defecation free and congratulated all the 3088 village Sarpanchs and Presidents of 24 municipalities who were felicitated for achieving the target of 100% household toilets. She said that this exemplary work will definitely inspire others and proudly shared that with 836139 toilets, Gujarat has achieved the success to construct about 70% toilets across the nation.

The total donation of Rs. 31.30 crore by different people and companies in ‘CM Cleanliness Fund’ shows that the society is now conscious and understands the importance of cleanliness. Let us we all make collective efforts and make this a continuous process for the healthier future of Gujarat.

CM Smt Patel, in her speech, stated that Narendra Modi is the first Prime Minister who himself initiated the cleanliness drive and also focused on the issue of household toilets. She said that Narendra Modi is the true bearer of the identity of Gujarat. She added that we all must collectively work to make the ‘Model State’ of the country to be known as Model State for cleanliness and 100% household toilets. She suggested having third party inspection as a certification process for village with 100% toilets. Talking about the importance of toilets in home, she said that it prevents outbreak of epidemics.

Talking about the free health check-up of about 12 lakh women and 45 lakh children in the state, she shared that 100% screening work is completed by the state government and about 20,000 women detected with cancer is being treated free of cost. She also appealed to Surpanchs to adopt highly malnourished children of their villages so that they get proper guidance about government scheme and care. She appreciated such activities of forest officials of Navsari district, some of the officers of home department, collectors, DDOs, NGOs, etc. She appealed to make Gujarat free from malnutrition.

CM Smt Patel talked about achievements of the state government and said that in all the fields, Gujarat has excelled and urged to compare the present condition of the state with previous years. She went on to say that there is a vast difference between pre and post 2000 Gujarat. She also talked about number of universities, medical colleges, hospitals, ITIs, etc. and said that this requires efforts and political will. CM Smt Patel proudly informed that Gujarat has been ranked as best Indian state for ease of doing business by the World Bank. She said that this achievement has become possible because Gujarat has followed the path of peace. She shared that this will fetch more investments in the state and will ultimately generate more employment for our skilled youth.

By mentioning the Garib Kalyan Mela, CM Smt Patel said that the state government has spent Rs. 13,000 crore to provide direct welfare assistance to about 81 lakh beneficiaries. She also told that the state government is always ready to help the needy without any kind of religious or caste discrimination.

CM Smt Patel gave credit to Narendra Modi who gave immediate clearance to some of the most ambitious projects of the state after becoming Prime Minister. She said that there are many other development schemes in the pipeline and it requires co-operation from everybody to take the state to greater heights. She said that there is no place for agitation or hindrances and expressed her confidence by saying that Gujarat will continue its development march at any cost.

On this occasion, all the Ministers of the Cabinet, MLAs, Mayors, Chairmen of Boards and Corporations, Senior Bureaucrats, BJP office-bearers, social leaders, Sarpanchs, Chief Officers, etc. remained present.
