Gujarat CM launches Smart Village Program and Felicitates Villages with 100% in-house Toilets at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar

Gujarat Chief Minister Smt. Anandiben Patel launched Smart Village program today, on second anniversary of her government, and also felicitated villages that have achieved 100% in-house toilet facility at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar.

On launching of this novel initiative, CM Smt Patel said that this program is towards making villages ‘smart’ on the lines of Smart Cities that will help them become self-reliant, clean and hygienic. She informed that 300 villages across the state will be transformed as ‘Smart Village’ in the first phase and the state government will provide special grant to shortlisted villages to implement the development plans proposed by the respective Gram Panchayats. She also announced that assistance of Rs.5000 will also be given for retaining services of consultants or experts to prepare and implement development plans. She shared that villages will be identified by Taluka and district level committees and finally will be shortlisted by the state-level committee consisting of experts on the basis of Gram Panchayat’s performance through a transparent process. Cleanliness, toilets, drop-out rate in primary schools, Anganwadi facilities, malnutrition ratio, vaccination of children, ATVT services are some parameters on which village will be adjudged as ‘Smart Village’, she added. She urged rural authorities to participate with affinity in implementing the road-map, as the villages should become smart only with keeping their rural soul intact.

Felicitating nearly 3100 Sarpanchs of the villages for achieving the target of 100% household toilets, CM Smt Patel stated that to become ‘Smart Village’, carrying out intensive cleanliness drive and to ensure toilet facility in every house is inevitable. She stated that this exemplary work will definitely inspire others and will contribute in making Gujarat open-defecation free. She shared that over 12.58 lakh toilets have been constructed in rural areas across the state in last two years only. She appealed everybody to work together to make our Gujarat a Smart State.

In her speech, CM Smt Patel thanked PM Shri Narendra Modi for appreciating the efforts made by Gujarat government for restoring traditional water conservation practices and promoting technology to tackle water crisis in his address during today’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’.

On this occasion, CM Smt Patel highlighted the achievements of BJP government and talked about various initiatives of the state government for the overall development of Gujarat. She stated that it is our commitment to the people of Gujarat that we shall strive towards every single aspect of their wellbeing. She also launched a booklet and website on ‘Smart Village’ during the function.

On this occasion, members of the cabinet, Chief Secretary Shri G. R. Aloria, MLAs, Sarpanchs, women volunteers of SHGs, officers, other invitees and people in large number remained present.

After the launch of ‘Smart Village’program, CM Smt Patel conducted meeting with District Development Officers (DDOs) from across Gujarat. She instructed DDOs to pro-actively address problems faced by citizens on ground and asked them to work as a team with people at grassroots level. She also directed them to make sure that pro-people initiatives of the government are implemented quickly, efficiently and transparently.
