Hon. CM Smt. Anandiben Patel attended the opening of IRIS National Fair 2014 at Science City

Hon. CM Smt. Anandiben Patel attended the opening of IRIS National Fair 2014 at Science City, Ahmedabad today. Smt. Patel inaugurated the Fair by lighting the auspicious lamp. She graciously answered some very interesting questions that were posed to her.

When asked about the secret to her enthusiasm and energy that grants her excessive travel and work, Smt. Anandiben informed the students that she didn’t indulge in junk food, but ate home cooked food, drank milk regularly and helped parents with every day work. She said that she walked around 3 kms a day. She expressed that these are the reasons why today she is more energetic than the students there.

One of the students also asked her what a student can do to help India progress and excel. Smt. Anandiben shared that students need not do anything great, even everyday tasks help the country a great deal. She told the students to contribute to cleanliness and charity.

When asked, Smt. Anandiben Patel shared that there is now a vast difference between the times when she taught and now. She shared that earlier, students were more disciplined and obedient. She shared that back then, students were not distracted, and focussed on studying the syllabus. Nowadays, students are not interested in studying, and even teachers also don’t seem to be interested in teaching. Short cuts are a regular norm. She advised that students should focus more on gaining knowledge rather than marks.

Hon. CM also said that now students are facing far more health troubles, which the State Government is treating for free. She appealed to the students to focus on healthy habits to improve the overall environment in the country. She informed that special food is being dispersed for pregnant women, girls below 6 years of age and children below 18 through Anganwadis.

Smt. Anandiben also shared about the many processes and activities put in place for protection and welfare of women, when asked about her stance on women’s welfare. She requested all the students to get their blood tested for haemoglobin levels. To ensure that girls do not face iron deficiency. Schools in the state are giving the girl students iron folic acid tablets once a week as per the Government instruction.

The Chief Minister spoke of the School Cadet Program to empower women in the country on the whole.

Smt. Patel placed impetus on the importance of research and innovation visa vis IRIS and the efforts by the students. She spoke of how the smallest looking innovation can later turn into a movement and can change everyday life when implemented.

Hon. CM had a very candid interaction with the students and gave them several inspiring words of advice. The students were glad to have the state leadership converse with them at such a level.
