Swami Vivekananda Youth Employment Week

65000 youths will be given appointment letters in the span of a week

The State government has changed the very fabric of ITIs and employment exchanges: CM

In a programme held as a part of Swami Vivekananda Youth Employment Week the Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday handed out appointment letters on behalf of private employers to 13380 youths of the six districts of Ahmedabad zone.

As a part of this historic employment campaign, the Chief Minister had earlier handed out appointment letters to 13079 youths of eight districts of Saurashtra-Kutch zone and 13229 youths of six districts of central Gujarat zone. The Chief Minister, on Friday, will hand out appointment letters to 25312 youths from six districts of south Gujarat at Surat.

Speaking on the occasion the Chief Minister said the State government desires to change the very fabric of the ITIs and employment exchanges. The government has brought about a drastic change in the kind of industrial training being provided at ITIs.

Earlier, Mr. Modi said, the youth were reluctant to take courses at ITIs and the people used to neglect this field. But the government has changed the face of ITIs and helped them gaining a new dignity.

The state government has equipped the ITI buildings with modern infrastructural facilities and latest technology. Even the Central government has recommended adopting the Gujarat ITIs as a model. Now, the training for vehicle driving is given through automatic stimulators. This will produce skilled drivers who will have knowledge of road safety. The ITIs are also enabled to impart training of high-tech construction technology, he said.

A decade back, Gujarat had only 274 ITIs, with the enrollment of about 77000 youths. But now, as many as 4.75 lakh youths are getting skill development training in around 1100 ITIs, he said.

The state government has opened up the door for higher education for those who successfully pass the ITI education. Now, an ITI passed-out can pursue diploma and then degree courses without giving exams of class 10 and 12. The contribution of an ITI passed-out in nation building is not a bit less than the one doing a white-collar job, the Chief Minister said.

“I am sure the youths will become instrumental in making India a world-leader as envisioned by Swami Vivekananda”, said Mr. Modi.

Speaking on the occasion Labour and Employment Minister Vajubhai Vala said the ITIs and skill development centres of the state are imparting training for as many as 180 different types of courses. The Chief Minister Narendra Modi desires each and every youth of Gujarat to become like Narendra Datt (Swami Vivekananda). The state government has undertaken this campaign to bring out the inner strength of the younger generation.

Minister of State for Labour and Employment Liladhar Vaghela said that Gujarat is the only state which has organized such job-fairs. This campaign is a huge effort of the government to curb poverty by creating jobs.

Principal Secretary to Labour and Employment department P.Panirvel said that Gujarat is marching with a rapid growth. With a view to meet the industries' demand of skilled manpower the state government has raised the number of seats in ITIs. He also gave details of various courses offered by ITIs.

The members of state cabinet, MLAs and youths in large number were present on the occasion.
