Swami Vivekananda Youth Employment Week

CM hands over appointment letters to 13079 youths of Saurashtra-Kutch zone

Historic recruitment programme in the country

65000 youths will be given appointment letters in a span of a week

489 job-fairs to be organized

Gujarat has taken up the task of competing with China in creating a huge pool of skilled manpower: Narendra Modi

In a historical recruitment programme held today in Rajkot as the first phase of Swami Vivekananda Youth Employment Week, the Chief Minister Narendra Modi handed over appointment letters to over 13,079 youths of Saurashtra and Kutch zone. These youths will be absorbed in private firms.

In a short span of a week, around 65,000 youths of the state will be given jobs in private firms through such programmes. It is planned to organize 489 of such job-fairs. Under this massive campaign, the Chief Minister will hand over appointment letters to the youths on April 10 in Vadodara, April 12 in Ahmedabad and April 13 in Surat.

Speaking on the occasion the Chief Minister said the recruitment campaign has been organized as a part of 150th birth anniversary celebration of Swami Vivekananda. “Swami Vivekananda exhorted youths to play football instead of mantra-chanting in order to awaken their inner strength. Through this campaign the State government aims at motivating youths so that they imbibe Swamiji's message, prove their inner strength and work for taking their country ahead”, he said.

Gujarat has taken up the task of competing with China in creating a huge pool of skilled manpower. Not a single youth, having professional skills, will remain jobless in Gujarat, he said.

India is the youngest country with 65% of its youth below 35 year of age. Europe is full of old people and China is also heading in that direction. In this scenario, India's youth-power can establish its stronghold in the world. “ India is not a country of conjurers and snake charmers. Our youths have already showed the world their mettle in the field of information technology”, the Chief Minister said.

Mr. Modi said the state government finds the ITI courses very important in providing technical and professional skills to the youths. The state government desires the ITI programmes to be treated with respect and the government has made this task its priority.

During past 40 years, Gujarat had 275 ITIs, which has increased to 1054 in last decade. In the past, we had only 3000 ITI trainers, while now we have 6000. The budget for the skill development programmes was Rs.107 crore in the past, which has reached to Rs.525 crore today, he said.

The Gujarat government has also increased the degree/diploma seats from 13,000 to 90,000. So, now even a youth from a poor family can also go for engineering study, he added.

Speaking on the occasion, the Labour and Employment Minister Vajubhai Vala said the state government has started about 3000 skill development centres in rural areas. About 2.16 lakh students are getting training in the soft skill centres, in which 50% are women. He called upon youths to be courageous and patriotic while marching ahead in life.

Minister of State Liladhar Vaghela said that Vibrant Gujarat Summit has resulted into investment commitments worth trillions of rupees. With the growth of industries, the need for trained youth will increase greatly. With such campaigns, the Labour and Employment desires the youth to tap the job opportunities.

Principal Secretary to Labour and Employment Department P.Panirvel said the state government has planned to start 10 new ITIs during the current year, including five for the women.

State Cabinet Ministers Dilip Sanghani, Kanubhai Bhalala, Vasanbhai Ahir, Vasuben Trivedi, Kiritsinh Rana, MLAs Govind Patel, Bharat Bodhara, Bhanuben Babariya, Kantibhai Amrutiya, Pravinbhai Mankadiya, Jasumatiben Karat, senior officials of government and youths in large number were present on the occasion.
